This past year I developed an increasing interest in Thai Massage. I am a huge advocate of stretching, a principal component of Thai Massage.  I was drawn to Thai massage as I felt this was a natural progression for my practice giving me a wider base of techniques.  Thai Massage involves the whole body and, although much older, is also quite different from the more common western style massage therapy that I offer my clients.  Thai Massage is sometimes referred to as "poor man's yoga" and is viewed as a holistic form of medicine in Thailand.

Thai massage is practiced on a comfortable mat on the floor and is a combination of many techniques - leaning pressure, reflexology, energy line work, blood stopping, stretching and yoga. Thai massage is all done by the Therapist utilizing, palms, thumbs, feet, elbows, forearms and knees, while moving through five different postural positions - supine, prone, left side lying, right side lying and seated.

I recently became certified in Thai Massage SomaVeda Level One.  I have found Thai Massage to be a unique and beneficial technique, both physically and mentally.  For the ultimate study of this modality, I am traveling to Thailand for a four week externship where I will earn my Thailand Practitioner certification.  From November 9th to December 11th, I will travel with a group from the International Thailand Therapists Association.  As we travel, I will be able to explore the ancient roots of Traditional Thai Medical Yoga and Massage in the actual temples and schools credited with preserving its heritage.  Upon my return, I look forward to sharing my experiences and new techniques with you.
