Here are a few tips to help you benefit the most from your massage:
- Try and allow enough time to have a relaxing bath or shower prior to your massage appointment. This helps start the relaxing process.
- Dress in comfortable clothing, (sweat pants, etc.) something that you can easily remove. Remove any Jewelry, necklace, earrings and rings and leave them at home.
- Try to be punctual for your massage appointment; if you are running late and have rushed to get here it doesn't leave you in a relaxed frame of mind to fully enjoy all the benefits that massage has to offer. Also being late could mean you lose time on your appointment.
- Don't eat a large meal or consume large amounts of beverage prior to your massage. You will feel uncomfortable and might have to get me to stop half way through the massage to visit the bathroom, breaking the continuity of the massage.
- Provide me with current, accurate medical history details.
- ·Communicate to me why you are having the massage and what you hope to gain. This way I can help understand your needs and help you reach your desired goals.
- Inform me if there are any areas that you do not want me to massage.
- Also inform me if there are any areas you do want me to pay specific attention to, i.e., shoulders and neck.
- I endeavor to provide the right ambiance in my massage practice with warm room temperature, soft music, a heated blanket and hot packs. Please let me know your specific preferences.
- I will ask during the massage if an area is tender or sore that I am working on. Please provide me with feed back on pressure and don't forget to relax.
- During the Massage only the body part I am working on is ever exposed. You will be under warm blankets at all times.
- This is your massage. You set the tone. If you have questions feel free to ask. During your massage you can talk or be silent, the choice is yours.
- At the end of the massage I will leave the room. When getting up from the table, be sure to swing your legs off first and sit for a few minutes to make sure you do not feel dizzy or light headed.
- I will provide you with a bottle of water at the end of the session to drink on your way home. Please try and drink plenty of water during the rest of the day to help flush out your system.
- Allow time for your self after the massage to be able to relax. This will ensure that you get the benefits of your massage treatment.
- I am a huge advocate for stretching. I encourage regular daily stretches and have some examples of good easy stretching if you would like some suggestions for particular muscle groups.
